What makes the SOK rack battery different
Self heating, built in. Lithium batteries won't take a charge below freezing, and a garage or shed in Ohakune, Alexandra or the Mackenzie can sit below zero for weeks. Most rack batteries just stop charging. The SOK warms itself up first, so your solar keeps filling it on the coldest mornings.
See every battery, not just a light. Built in Bluetooth lets you check voltages, temperatures and state of charge on each battery from your phone, instead of trusting a row of LEDs.
Talks to your inverter. The battery communicates directly with Victron GX devices, so your inverter and solar chargers take their charge settings from the battery itself and everything shows up in VRM. It works with other major inverter brands too. Check with us for yours.

30kWh and 50kWh battery cabinets
When you need big storage, building racks, cutting busbars and making up interconnects is where things go wrong. Mismatched cables are one of the most common reasons a large bank never balances properly, with some batteries doing all the work while others sit idle.
Our indoor battery cabinets arrive with the batteries racked, and the busbars and interconnects matched and fitted, so every battery shares the load evenly. Your electrician connects the cabinet to your inverter instead of building a battery bank from a pile of parts.

How much storage do you need?
Storage is the most expensive part of any system, so it's worth getting the size right.
Grid connected backup. If you're on the grid and want to keep essentials running during an outage and use more of your own solar, a handful of single batteries is usually plenty. Bigger isn't better here, because extra capacity often sits unused most of the year.
Off grid. With no grid to fall back on, your battery is what stands between you and running the generator. Size for your worst winter week, not an average day. This is where 30kWh and 50kWh cabinets earn their keep.

Yes, that's the point of a rack system. For the best result, add batteries sooner rather than years later, and talk to us first so we can make sure the bank stays balanced.
Any 48V inverter that supports lithium, ideally one that talks to the battery over CAN. We standardise on Victron because it's open, well supported in New Zealand and keeps getting updates. Ask us about other brands.
Indoors, in a dry, ventilated spot like a garage, plant room or shed. Talk to us about the space you've got and we'll make sure it fits.
The batteries are straightforward, but connecting a 48V bank to your house wiring is a job for a registered electrician. We're happy to talk your sparky through it.
LiFePO4 is the most stable lithium chemistry there is, and each battery has its own management system protecting against over charge, over discharge, over current, short circuit and temperature. Install it in a dry, ventilated spot as per the manual.
