Built for boats, certified for boats

This battery is certified to AS/NZS 3004.2, the standard that covers electrical installations on boats in New Zealand and Australia. That matters when your surveyor or insurer starts asking questions, and it matters more when you're a long way from the marina.

At around 30kg for 3.84kWh, it replaces a lead acid or AGM bank that weighs two or three times as much and only gives you half of what's written on the label. You get far more usable energy per kilo, faster charging off the alternator or shore power, and no topping up or equalising.

Six SOK batteries bracketed to the floor of a boat locker, wired to two Victron Quattro inverters, a Cerbo GX and fused DC distribution

    Safety that's built in

Inside the case there's a gas aerosol fire suppression system, designed to knock down a fire in the pack before it goes anywhere. The battery management system watches every cell for over and under voltage, over current, short circuit and temperature, and shuts things down cleanly if something's out of line. It's rated for 200A continuous charge and discharge, with an 800A peak for 10 seconds to handle winches, thrusters and inverter start up loads.

On top of that, the battery has a dedicated output that can disconnect the whole bank if a fault is detected anywhere in it, so a problem in one battery doesn't become a problem for the whole boat. There's also a pre-alarm buzzer. If the battery voltage starts getting low, the buzzer goes off well before the batteries disconnect, giving you time to start the genset, cut loads or get on shore power instead of being caught out with everything going dark.

The enclosure is IP67 rated for water and dust, so salt spray and a damp engine bay aren't a problem. We still recommend mounting it somewhere dry and ventilated, clear of the bilge.

One bank, one system, however big you go

This is where the SOK really stands apart. You can run up to 15 batteries in parallel for a 24V bank of 2,250Ah (57.6kWh), and the whole lot is monitored as one.

The batteries link together with the supplied cables, and one master battery reports the entire bank to your Victron Cerbo GX. Your inverter and chargers see a single battery with one state of charge, one set of charge limits and one set of alarms. If any battery in the bank has an issue, the system knows about it and responds.

Before you buy any lithium house bank, ask one simple question: when you add a second or third battery, does your Victron system see one bank, or a handful of batteries each doing their own thing?

Not every marine lithium battery gives you a straight answer to that. With the SOK, it's one bank, one state of charge and one set of alarms, whether you've got two batteries or fifteen. Start with what you need now and keep adding as your needs grow, without ever losing sight of the whole system.

Plays nicely with Victron and your chartplotter

The battery connects to a Victron Cerbo GX over CAN, so your MultiPlus or Quattro and your MPPTs take their charge settings straight from the battery. No guessing voltages, no fighting between chargers. State of charge, voltage, current and alarms all show up on the GX and in VRM, so you can check on the boat from home.

It also speaks NMEA 2000, so battery data can appear on your chartplotter or multifunction display alongside everything else. For a closer look, the SOK Battery app on iOS or Android connects over Bluetooth and shows you individual cell voltages, temperatures and alarm history.

    Installation notes

Every battery comes with mounting brackets and screws to secure it properly against the boat moving around. Fit a Class T fuse (or equivalent with at least 2,000A interrupting capacity) within about 450mm of the positive terminal, and keep battery cable runs under 10m. We strongly recommend the install is done or signed off by a marine electrician, and we're happy to talk them through the Victron setup.
